Timber Urn FAQs

We know there's often an uncertain stretch between receiving the ashes and deciding what comes next. Whether you're planning ahead or figuring it out as you go, you'll find what you need below.
Choosing Your Urn
What size do I need?
We offer two sizes. The Large is our most popular and is designed to hold the temporary plastic container that the funeral home or crematorium returns the ashes in and will comfortably fit most adults. The Small is suited to infants, children and beloved pets. For extra reassurance check the internal dimensions in our Urn Guide against your temporary container before ordering.
What timbers are available?
Every urn is unique. Our four available timber species are Tasmanian Blackwood, Black Walnut, White Oak and Tasmanian Eucalypt, each with its own character in grain, tone and depth. As each piece is handcrafted, no two urns are ever identical.
Do you offer custom or personalised urns?
We don't offer custom urns as a standard service. However, we occasionally release exclusive limited-edition timber urns featuring special timbers or designs. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to be the first to hear about these releases.
Using Your Timber Urn
Do I need any tools to assemble the urn?
The base is secured with screws, so you'll need a Phillips head screwdriver. It's a straightforward process that takes only a minute or two. Watch our step-by-step tutorial video in the Urn Guide.
How do I place the ashes inside?
Ashes are usually returned in a temporary plastic container. Our urns are designed so this container sits inside completely intact, so if you'd prefer not to handle the ashes directly, you don't need to. Our Urn Guide walks you through the process.
Can I bring the urn to a funeral or memorial service?
Our timber urns are designed to be a dignified presence at any service. We recommend checking with your funeral home, as they can advise on the best way to include the urn in the service.
Can ashes be divided between multiple urns?
Yes, this is quite common when family members each want to keep a portion of the ashes. Your funeral home can advise on the process and the right container size for divided remains.
Can I use the urn for pet ashes?
Yes. For pets, we generally recommend our Small urn. Most pet cremations are returned in a sealed bag, which sits inside the urn intact. Your vet or cremation service can confirm the right size for your pet.
Caring for Your Timber Urn
How do I care for my Timber Urn?
Timber is a natural material and will develop its own character over time. Subtle changes in tone and grain are part of what makes each urn unique. To keep it looking its best, store it away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. A gentle wipe with a dry, soft cloth is all it needs. Avoid harsh cleaning products.
